Through role-plays and guided group discussion during 30 minute presentations in individual classrooms, the Plain Talk: Personal Safety Educationhighlights a child’s rights: to be Safe, Confident, and Free to Make Choices and to seek the support of a trusted adult whenever they are frightened, confused, or worried. The Plain Talk Personal Safety Education Program includes professional seminars for educators on mandatory reporting of child abuse, and parent education sessions to help reduce children’s risk of abuse. Taking Action Against Dating Violence (TAADV)
For middle and high school students
This three day curriculum examines gender roles and stereotypes, provides information about sexual assault, and builds students’ understanding of the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships. Small and large group discussion, video clips, and inter-active exercises engage student’s and encourage their participation and sharing of ideas. This well received program inspires students to apply the knowledge they have gained to make a difference in their school community.
In Her Shoes: Living with Domestic Violence
For adult or senior high-school audiences
This interactive simulation increases participants’ awareness and understanding of what victims of domestic violence face as they attempt to flee violence. Participants walk ‘in her shoes’ as they repeat the same steps and encounter the same barriers that a victim herself has experienced when leaving an abusive partner. This program has a profound impact on participants and emphasizes that all members of a community have a role to play if we are to end domestic violence. In Her Shoes is designed for a group of 20 to 30 participants, with 1½ to 2 hours needed to complete the inter-active simulation, and allow for discussion, questions and answers.
