Volunteer Job Descriptions

General Qualifications for all Volunteers

  1. Completion of volunteer training.
  2. Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  3. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  4. Ability to work with and without direct supervision.
  5. Attendance at volunteer meetings and trainings.
  6. Ability to take responsibility for own actions.
  7. Agreement to follow CARDV policies and procedures.

Specific Qualifications/Job Descriptions

  • Fundraising: This position involves becoming a part of the fundraising committee formed by the Board of Directors. Meetings are monthly with about three major fund-raisers a year.
    Duties include: Attending monthly meetings, organizing and participating in special events, and planning CARDV’s fundraising future.
  • Office Help: Includes tasks such as filing, copying, organizing office supplies and answering the phone.
  • Food Share/Donation Assistant: We depend greatly on our monthly food share donation as well as all that we receive from community members.
    Duties include: Picking up and sorting donations.
  • Childcare Provider: We have children’s activity groups at the shelter and out in the community. We are always looking for volunteers to help out!
    Duties include: Supervising children during meetings and activities, maintaining an atmosphere of non-violence while allowing children to express themselves and test limits, reporting all information about alleged or suspected child abuse.
  • Community Educator: CARDV staff and volunteers are often out in the community staffing informational tables and giving presentations on our services, as well as the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence. We do this in high schools, on college campuses, and at other agencies in the community.
    Duties include: Assisting with curriculum review, staffing informational tables, and presentations with staff in the community.
  • Hotline Worker: Our 24-hour crisis line can be answered at the office or in your home. Resource materials are provided.
    Duties include: Providing support and information to callers, keeping appropriate records and passing information on to other staff and volunteers, maintaining a consistent schedule with the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Legal Advocate: A CARDV representative is present at the Linn and Benton County courthouses every morning helping walk survivors through the process of obtaining restraining and stalking orders. This includes attending the hearings and monitoring the way in which our legal system treats survivors through our Courtwatch Program. Volunteers must have morning availability.
    Duties include: Understanding basic family and sexual assault/abuse laws, providing assistance with Temporary Restraining and/or Stalking Order paperwork, attending hearings to provide emotional support and information to survivors.
  • Shelter Mentor: CARDV provides advocacy to the current residents through the shelter mentor program.
    Duties include: Meeting with a shelter resident at least once a week to provide support, guidance and active listening. This allows the volunteers to work with women in shelter on an individual basis while striving to meet the needs of the residents.

All direct service positions require extra training. Any volunteer involved in direct service will be required to keep accurate statistics and communicate any pertinent information to staff. Questions or concerns should be brought to the Volunteer Coordinator, Client Services Director, or Executive Director immediately.

All CARDV volunteers are mandatory reporters of abuse. This includes child abuse, elder abuse, and any person threatening to harm themselves or someone else.
